Timor-Leste Deposits Instruments of Accession for the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)

Washington - Timor-Leste today deposited with the State Department of the United States of America instruments of accession for the treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxic Weapons and on their Destruction.

Depositing the instruments today was Mr. Constancio Pinto, Minister-Counselor for the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the United States of America. Mr. Pinto commented that it had been an honour for him to deposit instruments of such importance as they indicate to the international community that Timor-Leste is fully committed to play its part toward the goal of world peace through non-proliferation.

The treaties enter into effect today.
