The Loss of A Great Friend
5th of May, 2003
The Government of Timor-Leste received with profound sadness the news of the death of Paul Moore, former Episcopalian Bishop of New York City.
The Bishop was a respected figure in his country especially for his lifelong commitment to peace, justice and human dignity.
Reverend Moore was always a sincere friend and a fighter for the people of Timor-Leste. He visited the country during the Indonesian occupation, and through direct contact with the daily life of Timor-Leste Reverend Paul Moore informed the outside world of the suffering and aspirations of our people by raising the voice of our beloved people in the spheres of power, namely the United States of America and the United Nations.
The United States of America has lost a great moral figure and the people of Timor-Leste lost a great friend. However, the example of dedication, human solidarity in the struggle for justice, freedom and human dignity will remain forever in our hearts and memories.
The Government and the People of Timor-Leste express the most profound sympathy and solidarity to the family of Bishop Paul Moore.
