THE REPUBLIC OF TIMOR-LESTE ESTABLISH OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH REPUBLIC OF ICELAND
On 4th of December, 2003, in New York, the Permanent Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Jose Luis Guterres and the Representative of the Republic of Iceland to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Hjálmar W. Hannesson, signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries at Ambassadorial level, from the date on which the Agreement is signed.
The relations between the two States will be based on the principles of international law and the goals and objectives of the United Nations.
The two countries are committed to developing and strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation in all areas and that their consular relations shall be guided by the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 24 April 1963.
