DR JOSÉ RAMOS-HORTA TO GIVE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN LISBON

The Senior Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. José Ramos-Horta, have traveled to Portugal to attend the International Conference entitled, “As Mudanças no Sudeste Asiático e a sua Relação com a União Europeia”.

The conference is hosted by the prestigious Portuguese IEEL and organized by the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal which will be held in Lisbon on June 3rd 2004, at the Centro de Congressos, Auditório II Fraça das Indústrias.

His Excellency Dr. Ramos-Horta will seize the opportunity to deliver his keynote speech on the special session entitled: “Political Transition in the ASEAN Countries and their impact upon the European Union”. Among other distinguished speakers are Dr. Ali Alatas, Indonesia’s former Foreign Affairs Minister and internationally known public figure will deliver his speech on session entitled: ‘The New Priority of Security in Southeast Asia’ and Dr. Aldo Dell’Ariccia, External Relations Head of the European Commission’s Department of Southeast Asia will also deliver his speech on the session entitled, ‘European Union and ASEAN Relations: One Partner and One Agenda’.

On the 6th of June, Dr Ramos-Horta will pay an honor to Dr. Sergio Vieira de Mello, in Rock in Rio, Portugal.

Dr. Ramos-Horta will accompany by Dra. Pascoela Barreto, the RDTL’s Ambassador to Portugal, during the abovementioned activities.

From 7-11 of June, the Foreign Minister will travel to the United Kingdom, as an international public figure to deliver speeches on conferences, organized by Oxford University and Cambridge University.

Dr. Ramos-Horta will return to Dili by June 13, 2004.
